- An understanding of what the recruiter is looking for. Every point answers the “So what?” question.
- So what if the candidate has a fun, outgoing personality? It means she’s extremely comfortable dealing with clients, and you can rely on her to resolve customer concerns.
- So what if she is organised and meticulous? This implies she creates structure in the fast-paced and chaotic nature of the hospitality sector – a perfect personality fit!
- Candidate’s Key Achievements. Significant Highlights are akin to testimonials of your skills. As a professional in the service industry, you know how a stellar customer testimonial leads to HUGE returns. Achievements show recruiters why the candidate should be hired. Break your work experiences into 2 parts – daily workscopes and achievements.
When writing daily workscopes, cluster them around responsibilities and high-level summaries, supporting them with metrics. Omit implied workscopes to save space.
Keep your CV short and sharp!
Here’s a sample Work Experiences section in a Hospitality Manager Resume.

Clearly, the latter Work Experience example reads so much better than the former.
- The second Work Experience example is easier to read. Each bulletpoint specifies one task. In contrast, the first line of the former example combines multiple tasks in the same line. Candidates do this to impress recruiters with their hefty scope of work, but end up confusing them instead. Don’t do this!
- Specific traits are highlighted. One point conveys how she restructured the Housekeeping department. Another marks her improvement of their training processes. Every point clearly highlights a skill or task.
- Implied work experiences like conducting daily housekeeping or attending department meetings are omitted.

Writing great Achievements are the secret sauce to a successful resume. As a Hospitality Professional, what kinds of Achievements could you write?
- Include projects which you have led and their resulting tangible business benefits, if any. Projects and benefits could be:
- Visitor Numbers and Revenue
- Upskilling and Training Programmes
- Media Features
- Local/Regional Hospitality Awards
- Tie your projects to business benefits if possible. Hiring managers and employers want to see your results.
- One especially crucial area to talk about is your experience in enhancing the customer experience or driving traffic/visitors.
